Little Boys Crack Me Up!

A little more then a month ago my husband and I welcomed our sixth grandchild. He is an adorable little guy named Evan.

Evan is our third grandson. Having raised two sons, I must admit I have a soft spot in my heart for little boys. My boys always had a way of making me laugh. They still make me laugh. They are always there for me in good times and bad.

One day I stopped over my son and daughter-in laws home to see the baby. As soon as I walked in the house my daughter-in-law handed me the baby to hold so she could take a bathroom break. I sat on the couch next to our oldest grandson Garrett (4 years old). He was not paying much attention to me because he was busy playing with his iPad.

Evan started to cry. I leaned over to Garrett and said, “I think Baby Evan is getting hungry.” Without lifting his head, Garrett’s reply was, “You have to take your bra off Nana and feed him, just one side!” I thought I was going to pee my pants! He acts like he isn’t paying attention, but Garrett doesn’t miss a thing!

The next evening I was talking to my daughter-in-law in Ohio. She was telling me a story about our grandson Oliver ( 2 years old). Oliver was carrying around a baby doll. It was probably his sisters, but he claimed it as his. His Mom said, “Let’s put some clothes on your baby.” She found a newborn diaper and a newborn outfit and Ollie’s baby was ready to go!

Ollie carried his baby into the living room. Now, this baby talks and cries. He started to cry and Ollie attempted to comfort him. He laid the doll on the couch and as he did the baby said, Mama! Ollie looked at the baby and said, “No, Da Da!” The baby said “Mama” again and Ollie told him again that he was Da Da! He got disgusted and left the baby on the couch.

I’m telling you, they crack me up! I am looking forward to seeing what Evan’s personality will be like. So far his brother Garrett and cousin Ollie are keeping their Nana laughing 🙂

Things That Make Me Smile

We went to the park today for a picnic with our son Mike, his wife Kim and our grandchildren Garrett and Zoey. It was a beautiful day here and a perfect way to spend Memorial Day.

The kids had a great time playing on the swings and going down the slide. A lot of people had the same idea because the park was quite crowded. Luckily we were able to find a picnic table so we could sit down and enjoy our sandwiches that Kim was generous enough to make for all of us.

Not long after we began eating our sandwiches, the Ice Cream truck pulled up. Garrett and Zoey both started asking for ice cream. Pop Pop took them over to the truck and two happy children came running back to the table.

We played awhile longer and then decided to pack up. It was nap time for Zoey.

We had told Garrett that Nana & Pop Pop would be heading out to Ohio soon to visit our Ohio family. While we were walking to the car Garrett asked me if we were leaving for Ohio today? I said, “No, not today.” He said, “Nana, when you go to Ohio, can you take a picture of Uncle Brian and Aunt Jenny and send me their picture in a text?” He said he wanted his three cousins pictures texted too! I said,”Garrett, you can text now?” He said, “Yes I can!” I looked over at his Mom and she just rolled her eyes and smiled. You see, Garrett is just four years old! I don’t think he can read or write yet but knowing Garrett he probably can text. I smiled and said, “Okay!” That was just the perfect ending to a perfect afternoon.

Happy Memorial Day!

Zoey’s 2nd Birthday!

The meaning of the name Zoey is: Life.

Our beautiful granddaughter Zoey celebrated her 2nd birthday yesterday. Her name suits her. She is full of life.

Her giggles make you smile. When she wraps her little fingers around your hand it melts your heart. She is beginning to use her words more and more each day. It is so much fun watching her try to imitate her big brother.

She will get anything she wants from her Dad and Pop Pop in the coming years. That tilt of her head and little grin will serve her well.

As I watch her grow it makes me appreciate how precious and beautiful life is. We are truly blessed to have this little girl in our lives. Happy Birthday Zoey!

Paper Airplanes

With the frigid cold temperatures outside, sometimes keeping our grandchildren amused can be challenging.

Although plopping ourselves in front of the television is appealing, we can only watch so many episodes of the shows on Nick Jr.

My grandson asked if we could make a paper airplane! What a brilliant idea. Of course I couldn’t remember how to make one. I must admit it’s been awhile. Thank goodness for You Tube, there you can learn to do just about anything.

Before long we were like two pros. We watched our planes fly around the house. I watched my grandson get so excited over the distance his plane could fly. Who would have thought that a piece of paper could bring so much joy.

Today reminded me that it doesn’t matter how much money you spend on toys for your kids or grandkids. It’s the time you spend together that’s important.

My New Sofa

Last week we had a new sofa delivered. After months of waiting it finally arrived.

My friend and fellow blogger Lily, @lookinginwardwithlily,convinced me I should write about my old sofa. At first I thought that was silly but then I decided she may be right.

Although furniture, houses, cars, etc. don’t have feelings, they hold a lot of memories for us. I remember how sad I was when we sold our old Chevy Astro van because we had so many good times with our boys with that van. Camping trips, vacations, shopping trips, sporting events. The list goes on.

I remember all the relatives and friends who have made themselves comfortable on that old sofa. I remember all the laughs and tears that have been shed on that sofa. I remember sitting on that sofa with my husband talking about our future and about how blessed we are in our lives.

I thought about how our granddaughter Emma always enjoyed standing on the sofa to play with the knick knacks I have on the shelf behind it when she was a toddler. Her brother, sister and cousins do the same thing.

Our grandson Garrett and Granddaughter Zoey spent many hours on that sofa playing with our iPhones and iPads. And course it was always the perfect spot for them (and their Pop Pop) to take their afternoon naps together.

Yes, that old sofa holds a lot of memories for us. I hope the new sofa will give us a new set of memories.

Funny moments

Today our grandson Garrett wanted to spend his time with us playing Harry Potter on the Wii.

He asked me to play with him. Although I am a beginner, I am learning to move around better on each board. I must admit that I am not nearly as good as 3 year old Garrett!

Several times when Garrett is not listening to instruction, I have seen his Mom get down on his level and say, “Garrett, look at me, look at my eyes!” And she proceeds to tell him what she wants him to do.

Today it was different. I was having trouble following him on one of the boards. I said, “Are we on the next level yet?” He sat down on the floor next to me and very seriously said, “Nana, look at my eyes and nose! We are not on the next level yet!”

Got my laugh for the day😂
